Further details emerging from the recently presented 2016 budget have shown that the executive arm of the government would spend the lion share of N5.87 trillion, or about 96.5 per cent of the total N6.1 trillion about N205 billion or 3.5 per cent to the other arms of government, with the Legislature and the Judiciary, spending N115 billion and N90 billion respectively. The breakdown of the budget also indicates that the government intends to spend N39 billion in running the Office of the President with major allocations going to car purchase at N3.9 billion and another N189 million to change tyres for some specified vehicles in the Presidency. Buhari presents N6.08trn 2016 budget to NASS Some details provided indicate that the vehicles that will gulp the budgeted sum for tyres include Mercedes Benz bullet proof and plain, Toyota cars, trucks Land Cruiser SUV, Prado SUV, Hilux, Peugeot 607 and 406, BMW trucks, ambulances as well as utility and operational vehicles. Also, the Presidency will spend about N1.4 billion on travels during the fiscal year, according to the budgetary provisions. The budget breakdown shows that some super ministries could be identified by the relative amounts allocated to them with Ministry of Finance taking the lion share of N1.5 trillion followed by Budget and National Planning with N1.15 trillion. Buhari to spend more than Jonathan on Presidential Villa In 2014, Jonathan spent N12.2 billion on the State House, while in 2015, the government spent N6.6 billion for the presidential office, amid dwindling revenue occasioned by sliding oil prices. The costs cover the State House headquarters, the president’s office and the office of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. They also cover the budgets of the State House medical centre and the Lagos Liaison office. One of the most outstanding State House spendings in 2016 will be the purchase of BMW saloon cars at N3.63 billion. It is not clear yet what purpose the cars would serve. The State House budget also contains a repeat of projects the Jonathan administration repeatedly allocated funds for. An example is the purchase of computers, which has featured in budgets of previous government each year. In 2016 , the State House will spend N27. 5 million on computers, while N268.9 will finance computer software acquisition. Aso Rock will spend N764.7 million on recreational activities. The installation of electrical lighting and fittings, which received substantial allocations in 2014 and 2015, will gulp N618.6 million next year. The budgets are subject to the approval of the National Assembly. Presidential food. Other big spenders are Ministry of Interior with N498.5 billion, Education ministry is to spend N483.7 billion while the amalgamated Ministry of Works, Power and Housing is to spend N467.6 billion.

Female suicide bomber caught.

At about 8.00am two suspected female suicide bombers detonated themselves at Madagali Market in Adamawa State in which 17 people were killed and 44 others suffered various degrees of injuries. Similarly, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division, Major General Lamidi Adeosun, has shed more light on the suicide bombings in Maiduguri, Borno State in which 26 people were killed while 85 others were injured on Monday morning at a news briefing. It should be recalled that 14 female suicide bombers attempted to attack Maiduguri, Borno state capital on Sunday but were repelled by gallant troops. He revealed that tenage female suicide bombers tried to force themselves into Maiduguri with the intent carrying out massive and coordinated suicide attacks using 4 different routes into the city; Asuwari, Mulai Kura, Baderi village Nine Damboa Road and Jameri village. They were however intercepted by the troops. Unfortunately 3 of them detonated their Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) at various places Monday morning killing 26 Persons and injuring 85 others. It should be noted that out of the 14 suicide bombers 7 were gunned down by the troops not 10 as earlier reported while 3 of them escaped in the ensuing confusion. Sadly, the escaped terrorists detonated their IEDs in 2 separate locations. One of them went to a house requesting for a kettle of water to perform ablution but blew herself close to a Mosque killing herself and one person, while 13 others sustained injuries. While the other detonated her bomb at Baderi general area. However, one of them, Fatima Babagapchia, was apprehended during the operation. The GOC praised the gallantry of the troops for being vigilant at all time. He commended the troops courage by eliminating the suicide bombers and arresting some of them, which he believes have averted what would have been a major disaster if they had gain entry into the town. Speaking to newsmen during an interview, the suspected suicide bomber Fatima said she lives with her parents in Bullunkutu Abuja, in Maiduguri before abducted with 6 other females in Monguno town. She admitted that being a divorced mother of a baby girl, she was never involves in terror activities since her abduction last year. She further said, Boko Haram terrorists took her along with others 5 females in a vehicle through unknown routes before arriving the outskirt of Maiduguri where she managed to escape and passed the night in a nearby village.

Nigerians should not expect President Muhammadu Buhari to achieve much in the anti-corruption war as the whole effort will backfire as several notable people who are close to him will be indicted and thereby tie his hands such that he will not make progress. 2. Buhari’s administration will have more problems by removing the oil subsidy. If care is not taken, we are going to buy fuel at N200 per litre. The removal of oil subsidy will spur militant youths to damage pipelines to steal products for sale. 3. Nigeria army will not be able to defeat Boko Haram if the air force is not fully involved. They can only defeat the insurgents with combined air and ground assaults and using satellites to target their leaders. 4. Mr. President, as one of your most loyal and faithful subjects who has nothing but the utmost respect for your person and your office, I am constrained to write you this open letter. This is because there are a number of issues that I believe that it is important for you to clarify and to come clean on. I say this because some of your assertions of late are at best contradictory and at worst patently dishonest. Whichever side of the political divide we are on I believe that we can all agree on one thing: that the prosecution of the war against terror is not something that any of us should play politics with. This is especially so given the fact that human lives are at stake and the very existence of our nation is under threat. Like much of the rest of the world our country is going through hell at the hands of the jihadists and Islamist terrorists. There is no gainsaying that we must all come to terms with the fact that the Islamic State in the Levant (ISIL), Al Qaeda, the Taliban, Al Shabab, Boko Haram, Hamas and another group that the internationally- respected Global Terror Index has described as the ”Fulani militants” (aka Fulani herdsmen) are nothing but bloodthirsty murderers and the lowest form of life. They are indeed the scum of the earth, the troublers of humanity and the vermin of hell. It is with this in mind that I urge you to take the war against terror far more seriously than you are doing and plead with you to stop passing the buck. Your penchant for blaming your failings in this regard on the previous administration is simply nauseating and it does not serve you well. You continuously contradict yourself when it comes to this matter and frankly such flip flops are unworthy of the office that you presently occupy. We your subjects look up to you for consistency, strength, unequivocal commitment, a firm resolve and the ”leadership from the front” that you promised during your presidential campaign in this war. We do not want and neither do we need doublespeak, lame excuses and buck passing. Permit me to point out a few examples of your contradictory assertions and your buck passing in this short intervention. Initially you claimed that your predecessor in office President Goodluck Jonathan never bought any arms and that instead he squandered and stole all the money that was appropriated for the procurement of arms. Yet when the British Minister of Defense visited you in the Presidential Villa the other day the story changed. You did a U-turn and gleefully told him and the wider world that President Jonathan bought arms with raw cash. One wonders which story you shall come up with next and which one you will conjure up in the future. Kindly tell us what the position is: is it that Jonathan did not buy arms at all and stole all the money or is it that he used cash to buy arms? You cannot have it both ways. It is either one or the other. Quite apart from your glaring doublespeak on this matter there was another issue which you ought to have raised with your highly esteemed and respected British guest. You forgot to tell him that his was one of the countries that not only refused to sell weapons to us during the course of this bitter conflict but that also helped to impose and enforce the international arms embargo on our country even though we are at war. This resulted in the unnecessary death of thousands of our people because we found it difficult to procure the weapons to protect them. Your guest’s country insisted on towing the American line and doing this to us even though we were fighting a war against a relentless, well-motivated, well-funded and well-armed fighting force that Global Terror Index has described as the ”deadliest terrorist organization in the world”. One is forced to ask: with friends like this who needs enemies? Given the fact that the embargo was in place one wonders how we were supposed to procure arms unless we did so with raw cash on the black market. The alternative was to buy none at all, to do nothing and to allow Boko Haram to take Abuja, Port Harcourt, Enugu and Lagos. Perhaps that is precisely what your western friends and allies wanted but thankfully it never came to pass. Despite the challenges and constraints President Jonathan faced, instead of losing any more ground, he rose to the occasion and retook no less than 22 local government areas and virtually pushed Boko Haram out of Nigeria. The only place that they occupied by the time the election took place was Sambisa forest. Jonathan achieved all this with those arms that he bought with raw cash. This is apparently what you are now complaining about. Permit me to remind you that it is those same arms that Jonathan bought with raw cash that your army is still using till today. Yet sadly since you were sworn in as President seven months ago you have lost some of those same local government areas that were earlier recovered and they are now back in the hands of the terrorists. Despite this you keep telling the international community and the Nigerian people that we are ”making progress” in the war against terror. As a matter of fact you went as far as to say that we had ”won the war” against Boko Haram and your Minister of Information, Mr. Lai Mohammed, echoed that grotesque mendacity and reiterated that sentiment by adding the words ”technically won” (whatever that may mean) to the equation. Sadly, two days later, on Christmas day, in what can only be described as an eloquent response from the terrorists, scores of innocent civilians were killed by Boko Haram in Borno state and a whole community was burnt to the ground. Again on Sunday 27th of December Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state, came under heavy attack from the terrorists. So much for having ”won the war against Boko Haram”, whether ”technically” or otherwise. Instead of conceding that you had told the Nigerian people a pernicious lie, curiously the next thing that you did was to tell them that you would ”persuade Boko Haram to drop their arms”. One is compelled to ask: why would you have to persuade them to drop their arms if you had already defeated them and won the war against them? In any case this would be the first time in the history of modern warfare that a sitting President has sought to destroy and defeat a vicious and relentless terrorist organization and win the war against terror simply with the awesome and devastating weapon of persuasion. Perhaps you should recommend that same tactic to the Americans and the rest of the international community as an effective and credible weapon to adopt in their war against ISIL, Al Qaeda, Al Shabab, Hamas and all the other jihadist groups that plague the world. Whilst you are at it perhaps you could also persuade Boko Haram to free the Chibok girls. It is disturbing to note that despite all your campaign promises and assurances that once you are elected President the girls would be rescued or returned, nothing has been done or heard about any of them ever since you were sworn in. Worst still the Bring Back Our Girls Group, which was essentially an appendage of your election organization, together with its distinguished leaders and conveners, appear to have gone very quiet. I guess they are busy trying to persuade Boko Haram to drop their arms too. The truth is that it is time for you to free yourself from your monumental delusions and to get real. Sadly you appear to be detached from reality. Instead of fighting the war against terror you are making it worse by slaughtering one thousand Shia Muslims in Zaria on December 12th, locking up their leader Sheik Ibrahim El Zakzaky and opening yet another war front in our country. The last thing that we need is for Hezbollah or the Iranian Republican Guard to rise to the occasion, take up the challenge, jump into the fray and decide to protect and avenge their Shia Muslim brothers and sisters in northern Nigeria. Yet despite the reprehensible and indefensible actions of your military commanders in Zaria you have refused to show any remorse for what was undoubtedly a war crime against fellow Nigerians and you have not prosecuted the officers and military personnel that were involved in the butchery. Instead the homes of the victims and those that share their Shia faith have been burnt to the ground in Zaria and their graves and burial sites have been dug up and desecrated. Instead of fighting Boko Haram you are fighting and killing your own people. Worse still you have refused to defend our country. I say this because a few days ago the Cameroonian military invaded our country, violated our territorial integrity and savagely murdered over 70 innocent Nigerians in their village before burning it down. Your government refused to acknowledge that this event even took place, despite the media reports. You did not console or express condolences to the families of the victims or retaliate against the Cameroonians. You did not even warn them or demand an apology or reparations from them. This is heartless and shameful. It could not have happened under Jonathan, Obasanjo, Babangida, Shagari, Abacha, Abubakar, Shonekan, Mohammed, Balewa or indeed any other former Nigerian President or Head of State. If any of them had been in power and the Cameroonians cultivated the effrontery to do such a thing there would have been consequences. Yet you did nothing to avenge this affront or to defend our honor. What happened to the gallant and brave General Buhari that courageously led our troops into victory in Chad in the early 1980’s? What happened to the honest and forthright man that we all admired and looked up to because of his military exploits in Chad? What happened to the war hero that gave the Chadians a ”bloody nose” for daring to attack a Nigerian village and that almost took Ndjamena, the Chadian capital? What happened to the man that proved to the Libyans and their Chadian proxies that Nigerians knew how to fight? It appears that you have changed and that you are no longer the man that you used to be. Instead of being honest with our people you have insisted on selling them a dummy and telling them a lie. You refuse to tell the world that our military is terribly demoralized, our soldiers are suffering heavy casualties and are not being paid their salaries regularly and, worse of all, that you have failed to procure a single bullet or weapon for them to use in the last seven months since you came to power. Instead of deploying all the power of the state against Boko Haram you have spent all your energy and resources trying to teach the former National Security Advisor, Colonel Sambo Dasuki, and all your other perceived enemies the lesson of their lives by misrepresenting them before the world, subjecting them to state-sponsored tyranny and the most insidious form of persecution, violating their human rights and lying to the world that they stole and shared money that was meant for the purchase of arms. You have also misled and misinformed the Nigerian people about the rules and conventions that are applied when it comes to the administration of security funds and about the fact that it is the National Assembly alone that has the right to probe the use of such funds as part of their oversight functions. To cap it all you have claimed you did not receive any benefit from the NSA ‘s office whilst Jonathan was in power. This is an assertion which we all know is, at best, questionable. You must be mindful of the fact that God hates liars and He despises those that abuse power. You must remember that the more you scorn God’s counsel and mock His admonitions the more your errors will be made manifest and the more your people will suffer. You must understand that any leader or government that is motivated by bitterness, fear, hate, vengeance and malice will eventually hit the rocks and crash like a pack of cards. You must appreciate the fact that God is watching and that He sees and knows all. May the Lord have mercy on you and may He forgive you for your many sins and wicked ways. God bless Nigeria.

Tragedy was averted on Friday morning in Biliri local government area of Gombe State, when a suspected male suicide bomber dressed in female attire with suicide vest strapped over his waist, was attempting to blow up a Catholic church where Christmas service was ongoing, but was arrested by some vigilante Muslim youth who were guarding the church. Daily Correspondents had exclusively obtained photograph of the would-be-suicide bomber; a male in his late twenties, dressed like a woman, with neatly plated hair to look as though she was attending the Christmas church service. Our correspondent gathered that but for the vigilance of some youths around the church who noticed the strange movement of the bomber, it would have been a black Christmas today in Gombe as the church was filled to capacity as at the time of the incident.

Armed Robber Arrested As He Misses His Way In Lagos After Robbing Women (Photo)

The police in Lagos have arrested a suspected robber, Saliu John, on the Old Apapa Road, Oyingbo, after allegedly dispossessing some market women of about N28,000. It was gathered that John, who was said to have come to the area with two others, was nabbed by members of a vigilance group after he reportedly missed his way after the operation. John and other accomplices had suddenly become separated, forcing the suspect to hide behind a tanker parked on the road. It was learnt that some local security men saw him looking confused. According to PUNCH, John who was arrested at about 9pm on Monday, was questioned by the security men and he told them that he had come to do business in the area from Ijora, after which he missed his way. When the suspect was, however, searched, the vigilance group members found different purses containing money, arousing the suspicion of the security men that he attacked some market women. The suspect was said to have been taken to the Iponri Police Division on Tuesday. A member of the vigilance service executive, identified only as Musibau, told PUNCH that John’s three-man gang usually came to rob on Jones, Atitebi and neighbouring streets on the Old Apapa Road. Musibau added that when John could not account for the cash found on him, the security men knew he was a robber. He said, “It was at about 8.30pm on Monday. The robber was hiding behind a tanker parked by the roadside. It was a security man at a hotel nearby who noticed the stranded robber and alerted the vigilance group. “When we searched him, we found purses containing sums of N1,500, N3,000, N2,500 among others, which added up to around N28,000. He could not give account of where he got the purses. He initially lied that he was coming from the Ijora area to do business and he had missed his way. “Later, he confessed to robbery, and we held him until the morning when policemen from Iponri came to take him away. The hoodlums have a culture of robbing women who are returning from markets in the evening. They would attack them with broken bottles and clubs and collect their day’s sales.”

A yet-to-be identified man has been beheaded at Amese community in Akure, the Ondo State capital beside a mountain where some people pray and worship.A source told Punch Metro on Thursday that the worshippers, who went to pray at the mountain on Wednesday, found the headless body of the man at the base of the mountain..

It was gathered that this prevented the worshippers from holding their usual prayer session as they quickly went to the police station to report the matter.The source said the police allegedly detained those who went to report the matter before sending ateam to the area to remove the corpse.A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said:

A 200-level university student, John Ekefre, has been admitted into the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital after policemen from the Iponri division tortured him and damaged his intestine. He was said to have been operated on to rectify the internal injury and to remove “the blood clots” that blocked his chest as a result of the torture. His elder sister, Mercy Ekefre, told PUNCH, who visited LASUTH on Tuesday that the family had spent over N200,000 on John’s treatment. “The doctor said his intestine was ruptured and that he had a blood clot. He had a surgery and we are still awaiting the medical report,” she added. It was learnt that John, an appendicitis patient who works in a cinema house in Surulere, and four other friends were going for a church programme tagged, The Experience, organised by the House on the Rock at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos Island, after they had closed from work around 11pm on Friday, December 4. John and Anthony Kenkwo, a graduate of a university in Imo State, had waited for three other colleagues, Michael Peter, Godwin Ekeji and Joy Imoh on the fateful day so that they could go for the programme in a group. It was said that on getting to the Costain area, the vehicle that the young men boarded ran into gridlock and they decided to alight from the commercial bus. PUNCH Metro gathered that they were walking by the roadside when they were arrested by the policemen, who accused them of robbery. John, 22, said he and his friends showed the cops their identity cards, but were rebuffed. He said the policemen beat him to a coma when he demanded to know what their offence was. He said: “I work at a cinema in Surulere. We were on afternoon duty that fateful Friday. We closed around 11pm and left for TBS to attend a church programme – The Experience 10. “When we got to Costain, we alighted from the bus we boarded because there was gridlock. About five policemen on patrol stopped us and we told them we were going to the church. They searched our bags, but nothing incriminating was found there. They forced us into their bus. We showed them our identity cards, but they ignored us. “On our way to the station, I asked them what our offence was and they said we were highway robbers. When we got to the station, they dragged me down, beat me up and one of them hit me in the stomach with the butt of his gun. “They said I was too inquisitive. The following day, they collected N6,000 from my brother before I was released.” Kenkwo said a policeman pummelled him when he complained that their arrest was not justified. He said he eventually parted with N5,500 before he was release. He said: “It was a bitter experience. Every Friday and Saturday, we run late night shows. After the close of work, Ekefre and I waited for three other friends from Apapa so that we would go to the programme in a group. The traffic was hectic that night and we decided to disembark from the bus because the guys with us looked stern. I also asked the officer who took my statement what I did. But he responded with punches. It was while I was in the cell that I started bleeding from the nose. They charged me N10,000 for bail. It was after my brother bargained with them that they collected N5,500. They collected N5,000 from Godwin (Ekeji’s) family, but Joy, the only female among us, was released free.” Peter told PUNCH that the policemen collected N8,000 before he was released. Godwin could not be reached but Ekefre confirmed that his (Godwin’s) relatives paid N5,000 for his bail. A lawyer and President, Citizens Rights Defenders, Chief Gabriel Ojumah, said he had, in a petition dated December 14, urged the Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, Federal Ministry of Justice and the National Human Rights Commission “to investigate the matter and bring the erring policemen to book.” Calls made to the line of the Lagos State police spokesperson, DSP Joe Offor, rang out. Ibrahim Idris Wambai, the former Accounts Officer II, has revealed that that the Office of Nigeria’s former Vice President Namadi Sambo was on a monthly stipend of N20million from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) led by former NSA, Sambo Dasuki. He pointed out that some presidential aides also benefitted from slush funds from the ONSA, singling out five firms which were used as platforms by some people to receive funds from the office. Many prominent Nigerians and leaders similarly drew huge funds from the office. Records of all cash payments to such individuals and organisations are still intact, he said in a Statement of Witness/ Accused Person which was filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory and obtained by The Nations newspaper. The certified statement on oath is part of the Proof of Evidence for the trial of nine suspects next week. He said: “In December 2014, I took cash of N4million to Col. Madaki(rtd) in his residence in Wuse II Abuja. I had made many cash payments to Doyin Okupe, Ahmad Idris (PA to ex-NSA), ADC to former First Lady Patience Jonathan as payments for monthly operation allowances. “The documents showing evidence of the payments are in the office of Yazidu Ibrahim in cash payment files. The exact amounts paid and date of payments I cannot remember but are available in the files. “The venue for the collection of the money was my office and the money was given to me from the cash in the strong room. “So many cash payments were made on a monthly basis to the following beneficiaries: Office of the former Vice President, Arc. Namadi Sambo (N20,000,000). The money was being collected by former Deputy Chief of Staff; ADC to former President (amount not known but in cash payment files; Chief Personal physician to former President Goodluck Jonathan; former coordinator on anti-terrorism, Gen. Sarkin Yaki; former Director PC4, Gen. Terba Waya (rtd); Personal Assistant, Domestic Affairs to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan. “The amounts and frequency of payments to the beneficiaries as well as the list of other beneficiaries are in the cash payment files. I also witnessed several payments in cash to various people. Prominent was about payment of N300million to former Chairman on Security and Intelligence, Dr. Bello Matawalle from the cash in the strong room. To get details of cash payments in Naira and individuals and organizations summary and vouchers from January 2011 to July 2015, the documents are kept in Yazidu Ibrahim’s former office. These should be collected from the Director of Finance and Administration, Col. Jafaru Mohammed. I and Yazidu Ibrahim can supply the files and the summary. ACACIA Holdings Limited (N600,000,000) via account no. 1017330319 with UBA and N650million via account no. 0122012650 with ECOBANK Nigeria Limited; Reliance Referral Hospital Limited (N750m) via account no.2022394057 with First Bank Nigeria Plc; Jabbama Global Nigeria Limited(N400m) via account no. 1013898095 with Zenith Bank; Continental Development etc.” Meanwhile, ex-Minister of State for Finance, ex-Governor Attahiru Bafarawa and his son, Sagir Attahiru and Dalhatu Investment Limited may have to account for over N18.09billion when their trial begins next week. Part of the cash was for PDP’s ‘Operation Capture North West’. The cumulative cash does not include the $9.809m allegedly collected by ex-Minister of State Yuguda from ONSA between December 23, 2014 and February 10, 2015. According to the charge sheet filed by EFCC, the suspects benefited from the said funds between April 14, 2014 and May 7, 2015. Some of the charges are : “That you Col. Mohammed Sambo Dasuki whilst being National Security Adviser and Shaibu Salisu, whilst being the Director of Finance and Administration in the Office of the National Security Adviser between 14th April and 7th May 2015 in Abuja within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court entrusted with dominion over certain properties to wit: an aggregate sum of N3.350billion being part of the funds in the account of the National Security Adviser with the CBN, committed criminal breach of trust in respect of the said properties when you transferred same to the account of Dalhatu Investment Limited with United Bank for Africa Plc purporting same to be payment for the supply of security equipment and you thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 315 of the Penal Code Act, Cap 532, Vol.4, LFN 2004. “That you Dalhatu Investment Limited, Sagir Attahiru and Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa between 14th April 2014 and 7th May 2015 in Abuja within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, dishonestly received stolen property, to wit: an aggregate sum of N3.350billion with UBA Plc from the account of the Office of the National Security Adviser(ONSA) with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), which belonged to the Federal Government of Nigeria and knowing the said sum to be stolen property but purporting same to be payment for the supply of security equipment and you thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 317 of the Penal Code Act, Cap 532, Vol.4, LFN 2004. “That you Dalhatu Investment Limited, Sagir Attahiru and Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa between 14th April 2014 and 7th May 2015 in Abuja within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court knew that an aggregate sum of N3.350billion directly represented the proceeds of criminal conducts of Col. Shocking :Father charged to court for having sex with his six year old daughter.

A 35-year-old father of three, Harrison Agu who allegedly defiled his six year-old daughter was on Tuesday arraigned before a Lagos State Chief Magistrates’ Court. Agu, who resides at No.23, Rotimi Omotosho Street, Isheri Osun area of the state was arraigned on a one count charge of indecent treatment of a minor. The prosecuting officer, Insp. Simon Imhonwa told the court that the accused had regularly defiled his 6-year-old daughter within the last 36 months. He said, “The accused began the assault in 2013 when the child’s mother was away for the compulsory one year NYSC. “It was during this period that the child fell ill with a serious infection in her genitals for the first time. “Thereafter, the mother of the child observed that the child’s genitals regularly produced a foul smell with discharges.” The prosecutor said the mother of the victim took the child to the hospital where it was confirmed that the child had been defiled. Following the discovery, the mother of the victim confronted the 6-year-old who revealed that her father always asked her to remove her pants and then deep his fingers into her private part, the prosecutor said. Imhonwa said, “The mother said her child told her that Agu always asked her to remove her jeans and pants and then he will put his hand in her ‘bum bum’ (virgina) and if she refuses, he beats her.” It was learnt that the victim had been physically and emotionally abused since she was aged 3. According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened Section 135 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Housemaid caught, steeling from boss.

A 30-year-old mother of two, Patience Benjamin, was on Monday docked before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan over the alleged theft of N500, 000 belonging to her boss. Benjamin, a housemaid, was arraigned on a one-count charge of stealing. The Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Sunday Ojeleye, told the court that Benjamin allegedly stole the sum of N500, 000 from her boss. Ojeleye said Benjamin also stole one HTC hand set valued at N82,000 putting the total value of stolen items at N582,000 being property of one Mr Ibrahim Taharm. He said the offence was committed on Dec.7, at about 6:00 p.m. at Oluyole Area, Ring Road, Ibadan. Ojeleye said the offence contravened Section 390 (6) of the Criminal Code, Cap.38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State, 2000. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Benjamin left her boss’s house for a friend’s house before she was alleged to have stolen the money. The charges against Benjamin could attract seven years imprisonment, if convicted. The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge. Counsel to the accused, Mr Wole Olajire, applied for her bail on a liberal terms. The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abdulateef Adebisi, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N500,000.00, with two sureties in like sum. Adebisi said one of the sureties must be a blood relation, while the second surety must be a level 10 officer in the Civil Service and adjourned the case till Feb. 8, 2016 for hearing.
