A man strangled and dismembered his wife, encased her head in concrete and then used the concrete block as a weight to drown himself in an Austrian lake, police have said. Officials said the couple were a 72-year-old man and his 71-year-old wife from near Frankfurt in Germany, but did not identify them further. The corpse and the bag were recovered by police divers from the waters of Traunsee on Monday. A day earlier, two suitcases containing the woman's remains were found floating close to the lake's shore near the town of Gmunden. Postmortem examinations suggested that the woman was strangled between 25 December and 1 January and that the man drowned some time later. There was no indication of involvement by a third party.

A horror event has left a mother heartbroken after rodents chewed off parts of her child's face and fingers at a rundown house in Acolman near Mexico City. The mother, it is believed to have left the baby at home while she went out clubbing. The 18-year-old mother identified as Lizbeth Jeronima Fuentes Munguia, alerted neighbours after returning home in the early hours of Tuesday morning and finding the little girl lying lifeless in her cot.

A 25-year-old Kenyan man from the Kirinyaga County, Leonard Kimotho, caused a stir in his community when he chopped off his own penis on January 1, 2016, (New Year's day), in protest for being turned down by the women he was trying to date, reports Tuko.co.ke. Kimotho, who is said to find it difficult to get a woman for himself, decided to take that drastic step since he believed his manhood was useless to him and as such, should be blamed for his inability to get a woman.

A 32-year-old woman is currently fighting for her life at the Embu Level Five Hospital after her estranged husband set her ablaze in Nembure Village, Embu County. According to Embu North OCPD James Karisa, the man has been identified as Ibrahim Murithii who was separated from his wife but trying to seek reconciliation. Murithii set her ablaze after she declined his advances. According to Karisa, the 35-year-old Murithii visited the victim at her house where she lived with her daughter and sought audience with her in an effort to reconcile with her. Murithii is said to have tried to persuade the woman to go back to their matrimonial home but the she declined, an issue that reportedly angered him.

The Police in Bayelsa say a policeman attached to the state Command died of gunshot wounds following a gun duel with robbers in Yenagoa on New Year day. Mr Asinim Butswat, a DSP, told the News Agency of Nigeria that a five-man robbery gang had attacked and robbed one Evelyn Patrick at Agudama area of Yenagoa on that fateful day shooting dead one Mr Victor Abule, 23, in the process. He explained that as the robbers tried to escape, they were engaged in a gun duel by a police officer, who shot dead one of them.

A fowl on Friday around Konwea Plaza in Asaba, Delta State allegedly picked a buyer to coma, leaving the crowd who had thronged the scene to catch a glimpse of the incident to scamper for safety. It was gathered that a big broiler on sale with others by the plaza, pecked the buyer identified as Sunday Ibie on his eyes. The customer, who had wanted to buy the chicken, immediately fell to the ground breathing heavily before he was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba. The seller identified as Mama Ekene told our correspondent that the buyer had approached her to buy the broiler and was given the price of N4,000 but haggled for N3,000. She said: “ I am shocked by the incident I was surprised that it pecked man in his right eye as he attempted to tie it. He fell down immediately and I had to raise the alarm for help.” An eyewitness, Kate Okafor, also said the broiler attacked the buyer when he attempted to tie its legs before taking it away. The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mrs. Celestina Kalu, who confirmed the incident to our correspondent, said: “What baffled everybody was the way and manner the broiler attacked the victim.’ ’ She added that the seller had been arresting by police and is helping with further investigations. The spokesperson stated, “The victim is receiving treatment at the FMC Asaba and he is still in coma. The bird removed part of the flesh in the buyer’s eye and inflicted a deep cut in that part.’’

Shocking :Girl kills herself after boyfriend rejects pregnancy.

A 19-year-old lady, identified simply as Chiamaka, at the weekend committed suicide for being pregnant. Chiamaka took her life in her residence at No. 17 Nwike Street, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State. The lady, who hailed from Ohaozara Local Government Area of the state, was said to have hanged herself after her parents told her that they could not buy her what she had demanded for the Yuletide because they discovered she was pregnant. A source close to the family said Chiamaka had, after discovering that she was pregnant, informed her boyfriend responsible for the pregnancy and who also lives in the same building but the boy denied being responsible for the pregnancy. “ Chiamaka was not happy that her boyfriend denied her in her trying moment because her parents threatened to sanction her for being pregnant. “The parents were very angry about it because we, the neighbours, always hear when they quarrelled with her because of the pregnancy and she thought the best thing to do was to go to her boyfriend, at least to have a rest of mind. “But she was disappointed that the boy denied her and I think this might be the reason why she hanged herself, ” the source added. When our correspondent visited the house, most of the residents had fled the building for fear of arrest while residents of the street were discussing the incident in groups. When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) George Okafor, said he was yet to receive official report on the matter.
